I just wanted to take a moment and ask that you pray for BB, Big Daddy and I tomorrow.
For several weeks now, BB has been experiencing knee pain. There has been no injury. There is no swelling (visible to the eye). There is no bruise. It's very strange and, honestly, has had doctors confused as well. One moment he is fine and the next he is laying on the floor screaming. All the doctors we have seen have ruled out growing pains because 1-the location, 2-growing pains are usually bilateral, and 3-the don't cause you to limp.
In the beginning, he was having episodes in the middle of the night. He would wake up screaming and would scream 5-10 minutes until the pain died down. Then he would limp the next day. At first, that was happening once a night. Then it increased to 2-3 times at night. Then it moved to happening in the daytime. Now, he hasn't had this pain episodes in several nights, however, he constantly limps and avoids putting pressure on his right leg.
We had an x-ray of his leg and hip done in town. Everything showed up normal. We then went to his pediatric doctor. He did an exam and we had blood work done to rule out juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and infection. His blood work was fine. We went to Louisville 2 weeks ago to see a pediatric orthopedic. She examined him thoroughly and could find nothing. So, she performed another xray that would show us more. The x-ray showed a little "something" in his right knee and swelling (that only an x-ray would show). What that "something" is we don't know. So, she scheduled an MRI. She said if the pain stopped within the 2 weeks of our appointment, we could cancel. It hasn't. So, tomorrow, we will head to Kosair's for an MRI of his knee. I'm not really even sure what to expect. An MRI requires him to be completely still for 45-60 minutes. Obviously, this is not possible for a 5 year old. So, I'm not sure if they will put him completely under or just a light sedation--but it will be one or the other.
We are hoping for more answers from this test. So, tomorrow, lift up a little prayer for us.
Pray for BB's nervousness. For Big Daddy and I to be calm and strong for him. For the doctors who will be taking care of him. For the results, whatever they may be.
Thank you!!!
